Diagnostic Evaluation in Readmitted Psychiatric Patients


Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze the difference of diagnosis between first admissions and readmissions of the same patients
The subjects were 55 cases who were first admitted to the psychiatric department at Yoido St. Mary¢¥s hospital, Catholic Medical College, during the period from January 1, 1976, to December 31, 1977, and who were readmitted to this hospital up to December 31, 1978.
The results were as follows:
1) The most frequent diagnosis was schizophrenia among patients with two or more hospitalizations, and schizophrenia was found with increasing frequency on readmission (28 cases in first admission, 36 cases in readmission)
2) Among the cases studied, 20 cases were readmitted within I month and only 5 cases were readmitted more than 1 year after discharge
